North Barnes lies in East Sussex between Plumpton Green and South Chailey, north of the South Downs National Park. It is one of best opportunities to create sustainable growth in Lewes district, close to a well-connected rail station. Concentrating new homes and infrastructure in a single location is the best way to meet the area's needs and can deliver far more benefits than piecemeal development.
Next to Plumpton Station – regular trains to London, Lewes and Eastbourne, plus road access via the A275.
Outside the National Park – the site sits wholly beyond protected landscapes.
The right kind of land –developable land outside the National Park is scarce, and brownfield sites alone cannot meet local need. Agricultural land at North Barnes isn’t of the highest quality and has deteriorated over time. Over 93% of land at the site is graded as ‘Poor’.
